Smoke and the memory of wood

September 24, 20266 min read

Birch tar, benzoin and vetiver: the materials that make a perfume feel like a fire in the next room.

From the atelier

Every perfume in the house begins as a handful of raw materials on a blotter, and most of them never leave the bench. The ones that do are tried for months, on skin, on wool and on paper, before a single bottle is filled.

A perfume should change through the day, the way the light does.

We write these notes for anyone who wants to know what is in the bottle and why it smells the way it does. Questions are always welcome at the atelier.
